Palia Crop Guide

Gardening in Palia can be a very lucrative skill and has a great deal of depth built into it. Whether you are new to Palia or a returning player looking to freshen up on your gardening skill, this guide is for you. We're going to cover where to get started, xp rates, level bonuses, crop boosts and finally the best way to sell crops.

Getting Started with Gardening

Palia helps you get started in gardening during the first few tutorial quests with Badruu. He will teach you how to place soil, plant, water and finally harvest your first crops. Once you complete the tutorial, more soil can be purchased from the Gardening Skill Store by talking to Badruu. You can buy 7 more soil for a total of 9 at a cost of 9,000 gold. Soil is placed on your housing plot and can be put anywhere in any pattern though people typically put them in a 3x3 pattern. To get more seeds, you will need to visit Zeki's General Store in Kilima Village. This is just the start of gardening, in the next paragraph we'll go over the different crops available to grow the special abilities they give.

Palia Crops & Boosts

There are 13 different crops that you are able to grow in Palia. These crops are Carrots, Onions, Potatoes, Tomatoes, Wheat, Rice, Blueberries, Apples, Cotton, Corn, Spicy peppers, Napa Cabbage and Bok Choy. Crops will take anywhere from 3 to 30 Palian days to grow completely. Each of these crops have uses either in crafting or cooking which gives you the need to collect all of these at one point or another.
The interesting thing about crops which makes gardening so much fun is the boosts they give to nearby plants. Crop boosts are given to plants in a plus pattern 1 tile away from the center and in order to receive the boost, those crops must be different. To explain this, a tomato can boost potatoes touching it, but the tomato cannot boost other tomatoes touching it.
So, what types of boosts can you get from planting crops? There are 5 boosts, and they are Water Retention, Weed Prevention, Harvest Increase, Quality Increase and Speed Increase. Water retention keeps a crop watered for an extra day while weed prevention stops weeds from growing on a crop. Harvest increase gives you 50% more crops and quality increase raises the chance of getting a star quality crop (I don't know the actual % though). Speed Increase provides an extra growth day for every 2 growth days. See the graphic to the left (PC) or above (mobile) for a visual chart of crops and boosts.

Making Money From Crops

When it comes to making money from crops there is a lot to it. You can sell crops three different ways, either as regular crops, seeds, or preserves. So what is the best way to sell each crop?

For every crop, selling them as they are in crop form is the worst way to make money. For most crops the best way to sell them is preserves and a few of them sell best as seeds, mainly because they don't have a preserve alternative. The graphic to the right (PC) or above (mobile) shows you the money you can make per crop for each selling method on top.

The bottom part of the graphic gives you the money you can make per hour for each crop. One note about this chart is that this does not take into account production time. This is only maximizing the soil plots because they are the most limited.
